Happy Mother's Day!

Today I came home and surprised my mom for Mother's Day- and the rest of my family with the cake below. While I showed up one day early, the cake has already been sliced into and won't last too long. Underneath the green fondant is lemon pound cake with a lemon buttercream frosting. YUM! Happy Mother's Day to all the wonderful moms out there!

Daisies...

Changed my mind.... mother's day cake will be filled with Daisies of all shapes & sizes! Blue cake or pink? Still can't decide....final cake posted this weekend!

Flower power

Tonight I began making some sugar roses, and some tulips here & there. After a frustrating afternoon of leaving a $20 bucket of fondant at the cake supply store, I sat down to focus on the flowers for my mom's Mother's Day cake. So far.... so good! Have a look... more to come by the end of the week. Happy Monday!

testing, testing

I figure the best way to begin this blog is by posting pics of some of my best cakes (and cupcakes, and the one's I actually still have pictures of). Each equally delicious, and fun to create.

I never thought I had a creative bone in my body, especially since my entire life I have been labeled as “book smart.” Straight A’s are textbook, but creativity is endless. I turned on the Food Network and saw a Cake Challenge, and was immediately hooked at how these artists could make sugar flowers look so incredibly authentic, and yet they were edible! Since this is a recession, and jobs are hard to come by, I figure pretty much the entire nation is soul-searching, as am I. Putting my passion to the test, here are some samples of what I have created and completed since getting started. More pics to post in the upcoming weeks... Stay tuned.
